A wedding in paradise - June 2010

We pulled Ailey out of school to attend the wedding of our friends Patrick and Vesper in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. During English finals week no less. When Ailey heard that meant a 20% penalty on her finals scores, she was adamant against attending. So we did what any caring parent would do...we lied.



















Ailey prepared a beautiful wedding card that we unfortunately couldnt deliver until after the honeymoon.

Future Heir Bilingual Elementary - June 2010

Ailey took her camera to school at the end of the school year to get pictures of her classmates and teachers.

Teacher Ivy - Ailey's Chinese teacher for the latter half of the year (2nd grade)

Andie - not in Ailey's class but one of Ailey's best friends in Taiwan. Her father is Hakka, a Chinese ethnic minority.

Teacher Amy - Ailey's Chinese teacher for the first half of the year (1st grade Chinese). Amy was perfect for Ailey, very supportive, caring and nurturing.

Ailey also did extremely well in her Chinese classes, scoring in the mid to high 90s in math and language.

Shaolai and Yuanzuei hike - June '10

Mihwa and I took a day to hike Yuanzuei (birds beak) from the backside, first "conquering" Shaolaishan which is a little higher but monumentally more mundane...with the exception of the gaunlet of snakes, wasps and bears you have to run. It was a foggy day that brought both cool and beauty.

A new family member - May 2010

A friend from work asked if we were ready for a cat. Ailey has been all about the dogs these days but put that on hold until we repatriate.
